The Barber License exam written portion is divided into the following sections: The written portion includes 50 multiple-choice questions that must be completed on the computer in 90 minutes or less. The exam has two parts, written and practical, that may or may not be administered at the same time. It is designed with the following goals in mind: Promote the highest level of consumer safety Standardize the field of barbering Make it easier for barbers to move from state to state while maintaining their professional credentials and Forge relationships with partners in the barbering industry. The National Interstate Council of State Boards of Cosmetology (NIC) Barber Exam is required by each state in order to become a full-fledged Barber.
